2013 WERA Expert North Central Regional Championship Standings #13

Posted by epswahn on September 16, 2013 at 1:00 PM

With the conclusion of the 2013 WERA Expert North Central Regional Championship event in Pennsylvania, the championship positions have been finalized. I competed in 7 out of 8 possible events this season. The one event I missed, I was unable to compete due to mechanical issues. My first expert season was better than I had expected it to be. I was very competitive, and established myself as a racer who can consistently race for podium positions in the Expert ranks.

This year in 2013, I competed in 40 races, and earned 20 podiums. I have won races with two separate organizations, WERA Expert and MotoSeries Expert. This year I raced in 10 separate classes ranging from 600 Superstock to 1000 Superbike and secured a podium position in every class I have raced in thus far.I competed for four WERA Expert championships, 750 Superbike, 750 Superstock, 600 Superbike, and 600 Superstock. Even with missing an event, I did very well in every championship. I took 2nd place in both 750 Superbike, and 600 Superbike. In 750 Superstock, and 600 Superstock I took 3rd place.

My progression as a rider each year has far exceeded my own expectations. Back in 2011 I first started riding on track with Sportbike Track Time and quickly was bumped up to Advanced. 2012, was my first year racing and I won three separate Novice championships. This season in 2013 I was bumped up to the Expert ranks and finished 2nd in two classes within one position of the championship. I improved my personal best lap times at every track and will race on three pro level race tracks by the end of this season (Barber, Mid Ohio, and Road Atlanta).

Next year my goal is to race with the WERA National series or even AMA Pro Supersport. Currently, I’m able to qualify for AMA Pro Supersport, and would likely finish within the points. To make this a reality I need to work hard in the offseason to secure more partners and sponsors to my race program. This is a great opportunity to begin racing in the professional ranks with the best motorcycle racers in the country.

Although the championship is over, I still have one last event .The WERA Grand National Finals on October 24-17, 2013. The last event for the 2013 season is going to be held at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL. The WERA Grand National Finals (GNF) is an invite only competition. It's the biggest event of the year and a special event to be a part of. It is referred to as a “playoff round” since no points are awarded. Winners of the GNF are part of a select few racers who have ever achieved such an accomplishment and take home big trophies along with National Champion recognition. Many of the top riders at this event in years past have gone on to race in the professional classes of AMA Pro Roadracing. My goal for this event is to improve my lap times at this track and place in the Top 10 in the United States.
